Stories About HomeAn evening of storytelling about homelessness and resilience
Join The Seattle Times and Path with Art for an evening of storytelling about one of the region's most pressing issues - homelessness. Hear from community members about what home means to them, how homelessness has impacted their lives, and what they wish more people understood. Stories About Home will feature five storytellers, two of them PwA participant artists, from across the region. Through spoken-word storytelling, they’ll offer a more personal and nuanced look at many of the issues facing the more than 12,000 people who are living outside, in vehicles, or in shelters across King County. The free, hour-long event will be live-streamed via Zoom and Facebook and will conclude with a live question-and-answer session between audience members and storytellers. |

COMMUNITY
The Swinney FoundationThe Swinney Foundation was created in 2019., after both parents were lost to cancer. The foundation was created in honor of Sherman and Beatrice Swinney. They both worked for Mead School and Office Products in Atlanta, Georgia their entire adult lives. They both believed in people acquiring work skills that would allow people to move into the workforce quickly and be able to provide for themselves and their families.
The Swinney Foundation provides scholarships, stipends, and community outreach programs to assist single parents, both mothers and fathers. The United States has the highest rate of single parents in the world. China has a rate of 3%, Nigeria is 4%, and the United States is 32%. Here, 1 in 4 children will live in a single-parent household at some point during their lifetime. Being a parent is challenging and life-changing even in the best of circumstances. Parenting impacts your time, education, career choices and opportunities, and finances, and this is even more so for single parents. Regardless of how someone became a single parent, The Swinney Foundation seeks to provide much-needed support. We are happy to partner with local colleges to provide scholarships and stipends to students to get them work-ready skills needed to quickly move into the workforce and provide a living for themselves and their families. |
